FORD F1 MASTER CYLINDER CONVERSION By MIKE

-UNDER CONSTRUCTION-

NOTE: SOME DRUM BRAKE MASTER CYLINDERS HAVE RESIDUAL VALVES BUILT IN SO ADDITIONAL RESIDUAL

VALVES  ARE NOT REQUIRED. THE REASON THE VALVES ARE BUILT INTO THE MASTER CYLINDER IS SO

THAT   PRESSURE IS MAINTAINED AGAINST THE CUPS INSIDE THE WHEEL CYLINDERS.  MOST REBUILT

MASTER CYLINDERS DO NOT HAVE THE RESIDUAL VALVES INSTALLED.

MASTER CYLINDER SELECTION: MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ENOUGH VOLUME (FLUID) TO SUPPLY THE CYLINDERS.

USE VOLUME FORMULA pi*r^2*h on all cylinders to calculate volume

                                                             Example. 1" wheel cylinders that move a TOTAL of 1/4" = .196ci x 4 = .785ci

                                                                                @ 1/2" wheel cyl. stroke = .392ci ea x 4 = 1.57ci

                                                                                7/8" master cylinder at 1.75 stroke = 1.05ci volume

This Master cylinder would be under size for 1/2" stroke w.c.

Mustang Master Cylinder. Purchased from NAPA. This Master Cylinder does not have internal residual valves. The external red fittings are residual valves.

Another shot of the entire assembly

Shows routing of the brake lines

I used the Stock F1 adjustable pushrod.

In this picture you can see the flathead socket cap screws I used to mount the adaptor plate to cross emmber. I used similar screws to mount the mustang master cylinder to the plate.

Brake pedal mount.

Shows the three bolts holding the stock clutch/brake pedal mount. These same bolts also mount the stock master cylinder.

Made an adapter plate with the bolt pattern of both the stock master cylinder and the mustang master cylinder. I used 3/8" flatbar.
