Atwater Kent Model 40 Power Unit Rebuild

INSTRUCTIONS ON REBUIDING THE POWER UNIT IN A MODEL 40 ATWATER KENT

 

STEP 1: VOLTAGE CHECK

First start by powering up the set with a 100watt bulb inseries with the power line to the radio. The atwater pulls about

60 watts for the bulb should glow dim. If the light is bright, stop, there is a short in the radio, most likely the power

supply.

REMOVING TAR FROM POWER SUPPLY

CUT SLOT ON BACK SIDE OF POWER UNIT TO DRAIN TAR WHEN HEATED ON HOT PLATE BELOW.

CAPS AND CHOKE REMOVED. CHOKE IS ON TOP. BE CAREFUL REMOVING CHOKE SO THAT THE LEADS ARE NOT DAMAGED

.47 CAPS ARE 600V POLY AND 10UF ARE 450V ELECTROLYTIC

Speaker Choke removed from Power Unit

Make sure that the leads are not damaged when removing choke from tar.
